Baisakhi is popular harvest festival
celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in Punjab. Celebrated on 13th April
every year, it is a celebration for harvesting of the rabi crop( winter
wheat crop). It also marks the beginning of a New Year in North India,
especially the state of Punjab. The festival is also celebrated as the
founding day of Khalsa by 10th Guru of Sikhs, the revered Guru Govind
Singh. The festival is a time for relaxation and feasts. It is
accompanied with lots of cultural programs and dances. Baisakhi is a
state holiday in Punjab. It is celebrated with lot of fervor in the
state of Haryana. Men and women buy new clothes, jewellery and organize
fairs. It is a time of communal celebration and thanksgiving.
